Today, I’m sharing two simple, modern networking hacks that helped me make over 20 meaningful connections at Bentley University’s recent Alumni Conference. As a proud Bentley MBA alum, it was such a fulfilling day—packed with great food, powerful speakers, and plenty of opportunities to reconnect and learn. Networking Hack #1: Use Your LinkedIn QR Code
Forget the business cards! Your phone can do the heavy lifting.
Here’s how you do it:
- Open the LinkedIn app.
- Tap the search bar at the top.
- On the right side, tap the small QR code icon.
- Voilà! Your unique LinkedIn QR Code pops up.
The person you’re talking to just opens their camera app, hovers over your QR code, and instantly connects with you. It’s quick, easy, and impressive. I connected with over 20 professionals this way—effortlessly.
Hack #2: Use the Bump to Share Contact Info
I learned this gem at the end of the day—and it’s a game-changer.
If you want to exchange contact information, just line up the front of your phone with theirs (horizontally), give a little “bump,” and your info is instantly shared to both devices. Fast, smooth, and no typing required.
Bonus Tip: Always have a plan before you attend an event. Like how many people you want to meet. I also used technology to pick my sessions in advance and even preview who was attending. That prep made a huge difference—and led to an unexpected reunion with a colleague I hadn’t seen in 15 years!
Networking has certainly changed. These tools make it easier than ever to connect in real-time and stay connected.
