Today, Sunday May 14th, is a very special day—a day to be grateful for anyone who is a mother of a child (children), or of a fur baby (babies). Mother’s Day is a perfect day to reflect upon and remember your own mother and your mother-in-law, whether they are still with us or not.
My mother, Mama Camille, has been in Heaven for the past two years, yet not a day goes by that I don’t stop and think about her, her beautiful smile and loving heart. She was an amazing mom: always there for anyone in need. I learned so much from Mom and I really miss our daily calls. I keep photos of her in every room of our house, and in this way I feel her presence each and every day, so she’s still with us.
I’m truly blessed to have such a wonderful mother-in-law. We talk a few times a day, and try to get together once a week for a meal or a visit. I love going out to lunch with Mom Sasso. We can sit and talk for hours. We never run out of things to say.
This year, feeling a bit nostalgic, I’ve been thinking about my last 54 years of celebrating Mother’s Day, and I came across this photo, which was taken on Mother’s Day, 2012. The big activity was going to the Burlington Mall, getting professional photos taken, and then enjoying a nice dinner at Jimmy’s. On that special day we met up with the dads and the brothers after our photo session. It’s certainly hard to believe that my little kindergartener now has his drivers permit. In this photo John Robert was only 5 years old, Nana Tosi was 75, Nana Sasso was 78, and I was 43.
Thanks for allowing me the space to share and reflect. This photo is priceless. All four of us have a nice smile and look truly happy. That’s what Mother’s Day means to me: celebrating my own motherhood, my mother-in-law’s special day, and also my mom’s memory. I’ve held several jobs in my lifetime, but no role is as rewarding and satisfying as being John Robert’s mom. In case you hadn’t noticed, I am one very proud mama.
