He Sang, He Spoke, He Soared
Landmark School’s 54th Commencement – May 21, 2025
🎓 Congratulations to the Class of 2025! 🎓
Besides the day John Robert was born and the day I married my best friend, this was the third happiest day of my life.
I knew JR was going to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at graduation. However, I was told to keep it a secret. But when I saw his name listed under “Opening Remarks” in the program, I thought there must’ve been a mistake. Surely, he wasn’t giving one of the most important speeches at Landmark’s 54th Commencement… right?
How could he possibly pull that off, after such a packed senior week? He had just presented his Capstone internship, gone to prom, performed in four numbers at Senior Showcase, and received one scholarship and four awards at the Senior Awards Banquet. It all felt so surreal.
As he stepped up to the mic, I flashed back to when he was a toddler and was our little miracle baby. The baby that was born four weeks early and who spent his first month in the CICU and ICU. The same child who had two open-heart surgeries (at age three and again at ten) and made miraculous recoveries. The boy who struggled to read in elementary school due to Dyslexia… now confidently reading and memorizing entire musical scores.
Fifty-plus performances later, here he was, standing before his classmates, teachers, family, and friends and sharing his story, his voice, and his heart.
Sending John Robert to Landmark was one of the best decisions we’ve made in our 43 years together. He didn’t just survive—he thrived. He’s grown into a kind, confident, and extraordinarily talented young man.
We’re used to seeing JR perform, but this… this was different. All eyes were on him. He wasn’t just entertaining, he was leading, inspiring, and shining. I tried to film, to listen, to hold back tears, but I couldn’t do the latter. My hands were shaking. My heart was full.
JR gave the performance of his life. We really couldn’t be prouder. He truly is one in a million.💙
Good Luck at Nazareth University next year!
