Our family just returned from a special trip to Orlando, Florida. It was a blend of friendship, fun, and a touch of bittersweet emotion. We visited Daytona Beach to see my UMASS friend, Susan Shatzer, and we shared a wonderful dinner with my RADI friend, Janet Dray, at The House of Blues in Disney Springs.
A highlight for me was spending the day at EPCOT with Mom Sasso. Together we marveled at the breathtaking worldwide views on Soarin’, wandered through the countries, and enjoyed a delicious lunch in France followed by an unforgettable dinner in Italy. Meanwhile, John, JR, and his good friend David explored a live safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and had a great lunch at the Rainforest Café.
But this wasn’t just any vacation, it was our last trip together before JR heads off to Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. It feels like just yesterday we were walking him into kindergarten, and now we’re moving him into his dorm.
John and I will soon step into the role of empty nesters. My heart aches a little, yet it overflows with pride. JR is ready for this next chapter, and I know he’ll thrive. For now, I’m cherishing the memories from this trip and the joy of watching him grow.
Can you relate to this bittersweet feeling of being so excited for your child’s future while holding on tightly to the years that passed too quickly?
If you have a son or daughter still in your home at any age, please give them an extra kiss or a hug tonight. (Because you can). It is amazing how quickly the time flies by.
