What a weekend we had celebrating our 40th dating anniversary! John, his mom (who we lovingly call Virginia), and I decided to escape to Foxwood Resorts & Casinos for a little fun and relaxation. Little did we know, we’d get a bonus surprise that would make this anniversary one for the books!
The day started with us enjoying a swim at the Peacock Resort, as Fox Tower Pool was closed for a private party. After our dip, we were waiting for the shuttle to whisk us back to Fox Towers when suddenly, a big black limo pulled up right in front of us. Out stepped none other than Big Papi himself, David Ortiz! He looked dapper, grinning from ear to ear, accompanied by two bodyguards.
Now, here’s where the comedy of errors comes in—my phone was buried deep in my bag under our beach clothes, along with John’s and Virginia’s phones. We were so close we could’ve given him a fist bump! Sadly, without a phone in hand, we missed the chance for a photo op with the legend. But just being that close to such a warm and charismatic guy was a thrill in itself. Our shuttle driver later told us that Big Papi was in town for a charity event. What a class act!
After our brush with fame, we headed to PRIME Steakhouse for dinner. Oh my goodness, talk about a meal to remember! I indulged in the most amazing prime rib of my life, paired with a giant baked potato and a heavenly French onion soup. John savored every bite of his pork chop, and Virginia couldn’t stop raving about her chicken. PRIME is definitely a must-visit if you’re ever at Foxwoods.
To top off the night, our lucky star Virginia (at a spry 90 years old!) managed to keep her winning streak alive. John and I aren’t big on gambling, but seeing Virginia enjoy herself made the whole day even better. We also saw a concert with Christopher Cross singing songs from the 70ies.
All in all, our weekend at Foxwoods was full of surprises, delicious food, and unforgettable moments. It’s safe to say that our 40th dating anniversary will be a hard one to top!
