“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill
January is a time for resolutions, and also for setting our goals—a time when we’re conscientiously making New Year’s resolutions of all kinds: to lose weight, to better ourselves, to find a new job, to improve our personal relationships, to learn new skills, or maybe to start a new business or to invest in our ongoing business. To be successful, the first step is to translate your resolutions into meaningful goals.
Statistics show that by mid-February most people have given up on their resolutions. And only 8% of people achieve their goals by the end of the year!
- Are you partial to resolutions?
- Or are you a “word of the year” person?
- Maybe you prefer a “theme of the year.”
- Perhaps you’re like me, and you set SMART Goals.
How does one improve the likelihood of achieving your goals? I recommend that you choose a tool or action to help create your goals. I find that the technique known as “SMART Goals” works best. It’s a guide for how to set up a roadmap to reach a clearly defined target. Each letter of the word “SMART” stands for a specific quality that must be present in any goal you’re seriously considering putting into your action plan. You should be able to describe any single proposed goal by using all of the following adjectives:
While I’m busily using this system, setting goals for myself, the New Year is also celebration time for me—with another candle on my cake. My birthday always follows the New Year. I’d like to celebrate this year by giving you a gift: I can always offer you a free mini-consult (15-minutes) to help you come up with an appropriate goal (or goals) for the year. However, if you’d like to follow a process and an effective program, I have a Goal Success Program (Goal Success Program – Lisa Sasso Medical Device Coach (meddevpartners.com) that I can share with you. This is for people who want more of a deep dive into Goal Setting and help with setting personal, professional and gratitude goals.
If you’re frustrated over your efforts at setting goals, please know that you don’t have to do it all by yourself. 2023 is going to be your best year ever if you believe it, set the right goals, and also if you have an accountability partner who will help you to achieve them.
By simply writing down your goals, you are 39.9% more likely to achieve them. PLUS: by having an accountability partner, you are 76.7% more likely to achieve them.
Would you like some help setting your goals? As a first step, a FREE 15-20 minute mini-consult (Link to Book Time) will allow you to explore what is most important to you…or, are you prepared to do something different, dig deeper, take action and, together with your accountability partner, achieve your goals and this year fulfill your dreams?
I’d love to hear from you. If there’s something that you’d like to have me write about, or perhaps there’s something you’d like me to explore with you in the coming year. Please let me know. I want to best serve you.
Also, on another note, besides Goal Setting, this January I‘ll be busy presenting one of my other favorite topics, Networking. Next week, during a free on-line session for MDG on Wednesday, January 18th 6-7pm, I’ll be discussing Top Networking Techniques for Medical Device Professionals – MDG Boston and I will help you to craft an Elevator Speech 2023. To register for this free event, or to share this information, use the link above.
I look forward to working with you and/or supporting you in 2023, and I appreciate you being part of my community.
Finally, here’s to your health, your happiness, and to the success of your Goals in 2023.
