Working in the Medical Device Industry- Engineers Need both Soft & Hard Skills to Maximize their Opportunity
by Lisa Sasso, Executive Coach & Motivational Speaker, Medical Device Partners and John Sasso, Medical Device Product Development and Commercial Consultant, Sasso Solutions
Did you know there are 480 Medical Device firms in the Boston area. Massachusetts ranks third in the country for Medical Device Employment after CA and only slightly after MN in this sector. Lisa will share this and other important facts that will help you to better understand the industry and determine the opportunity. While many of these firms are looking for individuals (consultants or otherwise) with specialized electrical engineering skills, there are other considerations, such as being able to effectively communicate your offering and demonstrate understanding the customer (in this case the medical device company). In Lisa’s current role as an Executive Coach, and as the past President/CEO of a medical device company that she grew from inception to $28M, she will make the case that working on your soft skills is equally important and needed today for personal and professional success. These skills will not only be of value to you in the case of a medical device company, but also with your other clients, industry partners and in your daily life.
Many of you possess sought after specialized skills that are applicable across industries. But when you talk to someone in the medical device industry, are you able to not only clearly point to your relevant experience, but also talk to these individuals using their jargon? As a consultant and operations executive with extensive medical device product development and commercialization experience, John will bridge the gap from your hard technical skills to medical device field terminology. While it may be that you are only hired for a certain specific project, how can you expand that engagement to provide more value and establish more domain knowledge? John will make the case for leveraging medical device application/end user needs understanding as part of your communication.
